About

A support for industrial shipping

Öckeröborgen logotyp

Öckeröborgen is a family-owned parent company with several businesses in the marine sector in Sweden.

Ö-varvet was founded by Ernst Backman in 1916 as a repair yard for fishing boats. In 1945, the yard was taken over by his sons Gösta and Hugo Backman, and later in 1966, it was passed on to Gösta’s son Rune Backman.

In 1990, the yard was taken over by Gösta’s grandsons Peder, Örjan, and Jonas Backman. At that time, the yard employed 17 people.

Since 1990, the business has continuously evolved. What started as a single shipyard has grown into a group comprising five shipyards and several other marine-related companies.

Today, the 5th generation of the Backman family is also active in the group. The group now employs nearly 600 people across its companies, which are located in various parts of Sweden.
